Subscription vs Burnable music
Yahoo and others like Napster are now offering subscriptions to their music service. What does that mean?
A subscription means that you can accesss any songs on their server and download them to your PC and load on your player. It will not let you burn that song to a CD. The songs can resisde on your PC "forver" as long as it is connected to to the internet and can update its license once in a while. So as long as you are paying for the subscription you can keep the song. (more info)
If your friends have Yahoo Messanger and a subscription you can share your songs with them...
If you do want to burn a song to a CD and forever keep it as yours Yahoo charges $.79 per song. I believe iTunes is $.99? (More info)

Does the Gigabeat have the ablity to work with Yahoo! Music Unlimited? No one can tell me; not even Toshiba. I've been trying to find out for a week if the new Gigabeats will work with the new subscription service from Yahoo. Not even Yahoo can tell me.
In order for you to take your music with you to a portable player, your player has to be PlaysForSure Subscription compatible. The technical term is WM DRM 10 (Janus). This is Windows digital media management which can put a clock on your music and shut it off if you cancel your subscription.
If you go to PlaysForSure.com and do a search for players that can do subscription music and only 14 players are listed. About the best is the iRiver products, but I think the Toshiba's should be a better choice if we can figure out if the work with Yahoo.
By the way, Toshiba's press releases state that the Gigabeat's will work with Naspter's subsription service which is called, Napster-To-Go. So it should work with Yahoo, we just need someone to try it. Why Yahoo over Napster? 1. Naspter is $14.95 per month and Yahoo is $4.95. 2. The quality of the downloads are better on Yahoo.
